No, this isn't an advertisement for the Messenger~Inquirer.
In order to read the MI online you need to ether be a 7 day a week subscriber or pay anywhere from $1 per day to $88 per year to have access. While this might sound fair enough, consider that this is one of the very few newspapers to be this cheap and/or inconsiderate to its community . You can read the Henderson Gleaner, The Courier Journal of Louisville, or The Lexington Herald for free but our home town paper has the audacity to demand a coin or two in order for outsiders to read of our events. When you consider that outsiders may want to contribute to disasters such as the 2000 tornado, or that perhaps they want info on the BBQ Festival, or Reid's Apple Festival, how many are going to pay a fee in order to contribute. It almost looks as if the MI would prefer Owensboro to exclude itself from the rest of the country, unless of course, they can cash in on a measly buck. I'm wondering if they still have those dime slotted toilet stalls in their building.
