Living and Working in Owensboro

With Owensboro KY miles away from the Mexican boarder, we're still seeing the effects of illegal aliens on our community. I'm personally understanding of farmers needing seasonable workers to cut and house tobacco as many people are in school or can't leave their full time jobs to help. However, it's obvious that these folks aren't simply here on a temporary visa but are in fact undercutting jobs that's truely ours. We know that Fields Packing Co., Purdue, Tyson, et al., were literally shut down during the walkout over immigration reform a year or so ago. Understandably, we're not near as saturated as cities closer to the boarder but their presence is certainly obvious. It's not that I have an issue with race by any stretch. If they're legal, I adamantly support them. If they're not, why are our laws not being enforced? It's one thing for us to condone illegal aliens taking our jobs (and puleezze don't hand me that "jobs Americans will not do" malarkey as that isn't the case.  They simply don't want to or cannot do  for slave wages.) but it's another to have them here living under such atrocious conditions as living in  rundown motels at $200 a week because they cannot come up  with the down payment or don't have the credentials to secure an apartment. Obviously, our elected officials put corporate gain over moral issues and citizen protection. With elections coming up, what's your take? How does this effect you? Or, does it?
